Here are my four favourite fireworks pictures from this New Year's. All taken from a distance of about 2 km, so they are all heavily cropped. Handheld, f5.6, circa 1/20s, ISO 3200. Who knew there was so much smoke with the fire...we can only guess as to the effect on air quality...

aw man!!! just when we were remembering the magic of fireworks... a stinkin reminder of it's pollutant effects. Steups. Did you hear about the operator in Holetown who nearly lost a leg when the firework thing went awry? Real scientific equations required to get it right. I continue to be blown away (pun intended) with how the things actually work...
