From Young...

The kids put on a dance, complete with costumes - white vests. This is them at the start of their choreographed piece, hands raised in the air.

In a line under the tent, it all seems to be going well, the music's playing, and they're moving well together...

And then the tops come off in a sort of pseudo strip...

Followed by each moving out to the tent poles for a kiddie pole dance...!

Clearly choreographed by an adult. Ahh, what we put on the children..

Behind the lines

The kids had a jumping tent, which turned out to be an excellent photo - pose frame, in between jumping on each other and being hurled from one end to another by the older ones. Kevin in the picture below is Diana's son, and that's his niece, actually....

Escape from Alcatraz - this kid hurtles out of the tent closely followed by several other boys, he's got to get out of the way pronto, or risk being landed on by the bigger boys.

Neighbourhood Party

My neighbour Diana had a party last Saturday to celebrate her 50th, but with a big emphasis on the kids. I wondered over there before the hash hoping to get some daylight pictures of the kids and I wasn't disappointed. Things were pretty quiet, it wasn't scheduled to start until 7 pm. Some of the kids were occupying themselves playing dominoes

Jevon was fascinated by the thought of being captured on film and spent the first few minutes trying to get in the frame at any cost...

One of the older boys, Rico, is a picture of concentration, as he tries to suss out the next play.

Heroes day Drumming Gig

Varia's first drumming gig with Israel Lovell Drummers - Heroes Day "Cultural Presentation" Place - Parliament Buildings. They provided back up for various performances. Next show is Saturday 30th May...

The little boy next to Varia is only 4 years old and has only been playing for about 4 months, about the same as Varia. They sounded like pros!

Yup - that's Geuel. About the most photogenic kid ever... In the playhouse at Sunnyside, happy as pappy...

We're horsing around, Lili's taking the pics. Trying to get Geuel to give a thumbs up. Why?

But eventually it works, and it's all he does for the rest of the day...

The 'copper or 'taiche', made of cast iron, was used in sugar factories and rum distilleries to boil the sugar juice and evaporate off the water. the concentrated juice was either used to make sugar or fermented and distilled as rum. the repeated heating and cooling would eventually weaken the metal and cause it to crack, as these have...Grenada once had more than 100 sugar factories, so that makes for a lot of old coppers, now highly prized as garden ornaments....

Us in Anguilla

Hey you guys! Well you all enthusiastically responded to my last post asking for more, so I'll continue let my blog email you whenever I add something to it. These are pictures from Anguilla over Easter weekend visiting Lili. Some persons(well, only one person) asked for pictures of us - as opposed to sea, sand and sun and moon...

As you will notice, Lili is in a making faces mode these days...I know, it is weird!

Where we stayed, the Ferryboat Inn, run by some friendly Anguillan - Trinidadians. We had a great view across the Sint Maarten and it was very homely. Especially when the a/c started leaking on me in the middle of the night...

This was at Barrel Stay, a too-expensive restaurant. Anguilla is possibly the most expensive backwater you'll find anywhere...

And at the restaurant at Ferryboat Inn.

This is on the beach at Cap Juluca, one of the fanciest hotels in the Caribbean. It was quite empty. The beach was amazing though.
